Set in the village of Arlingham bordered on three sides by the River Severn, Arlingham church has served the local community for hundreds of years.

We are part of a group of fifteen parishes known as the Stroudwater Team of Churches, and details of events and services across our whole team can be found on our team website - details are in the contact section of this website.

The Church of St Mary the Virgin dates from the mid-fourteenth century in the decorated style and has been little altered. It still has some of the original stained glass windows of the highest quality.

We hold two services a month as well as weddings, baptisms and funerals.  The church is supported by many local villagers who help on a practical level.  If you would like to find out more about how you can help do get it touch.

St Mary the Virgin Fretherne

Fretherne is part of the Stroudwater Team Benefice. A small parish of 150 people with 30 on the electoral roll, 50% of our population are young families. Festivals such as Harvest, Easter and Christmas see our church full. Our services have a modern focus and our aim is to attract all generations.
Fretherne Church is known as Gloucestershire's Mini Cathedral. It is a tiny church of great beauty, with a depth of history researched and documented. It was completely rebuilt in Victorian times and is of national interest being an unusually ornate design for a village church.
The church is close to the Severn Way, so is often visited by walkers.

The church is open for visitors every Sunday and Wednesday, 9 am to 4 pm.  Our monthly services are held on the 4th Sunday each month at 11.15 am.  If you would like to visit at a different time please contact the Churchwarden.
